The Assistant Director (AD) is primarily responsible for managing the day-to-day operations on a film set, ensuring that the production runs smoothly and on schedule. This role involves coordinating the various departments, communicating between the director and the crew, and overseeing the flow of production. The AD organizes the shooting schedule, manages the cast and crew during filming, and addresses any issues that may arise during the day-to-day activities of the set.

While the 2nd Assistant Director does have responsibilities, particularly in relation to the director’s duties and supporting the Assistant Director, they do not hold the primary role in overseeing the overall operations of the film set. The Producer and Line Producer also play important roles in the production, but their focus is more on the financial, logistical, and administrative aspects rather than the day-to-day management on-site during filming.
